The centre is open for 10 hours a day, Monday to Friday. We are closed for all public holidays and for 2 weeks over the Christmas and New Year period.
Our educators have extensive training in the early childhood field. They are dedicated, inspiring, loving and committed to reinforcing your child’s learning and development every day. We believe that a high quality centre is staffed by high quality educators. For this reason we encourage our staff to continually engage in professional development activities. All our staff are qualified to manage first aid emergencies as well as manage health issues such as asthma and anaphylaxis. Additionally, all staff employed at Little Hands have passed a “Working with Children Check” as required by child protection legislation.
Our Learning Groups
Our small, home-like environment allows children to feel comfortable and confident to explore and discover. We have 2 learning groups. The 2-3 year olds with approximately 8 children daily and the 4 and 5 year olds with 20 children daily. In the early morning and late afternoon these groups come together for outdoor play and other activities. Child to educator ratios as set out in the National Regulations are always met and adhered to.
We believe there are many areas of learning that contribute to getting a child ready for school. Our program is based on providing child-led, open ended, play based experiences that extend on children’s interests. In addition to this we offer an element of traditional “pre-schooling” in our program which aims to prepare children in the areas of basic numeracy and literacy. Sounds, letter and number recognition, basic comprehension, name writing and counting are practised using games and play during group times. Children are encouraged to develop their independence by looking after their own belongings and accessing their own hats, lunch boxes and school bags throughout the day. We believe that development of “self- help” skills is required for an effective and smooth transition to school.
Meals At Little Hands
we view meal times as a special time for children and staff to socialise and enjoy each others company. Lunchboxes are provided from home with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. We encourage children to make choices from their lunchboxes that are healthy and nutritious as well as access their own water bottles regularly throughout the day.
We are a Cancer Council Sunsafe Centre so children are required to wear hats at all times whilst outside. Sunscreen is provided and we ask parents to apply it to their children when signing in each morning. Staff then reapply sunscreen throughout the day as required.
Our daily fee is $70 per day and financial statements are issued weekly. A one off administration fee of $50 is required to enrol. As you are accepting a permanent booking when you enrol with us, payment is still required when your child is absent for any reason and on public holidays. Payment is not required during the 2 week Christmas closure period. The Australian Government provides assistance to families to help cover the cost of childcare fees.
